Need More Ports?Need More Ports?
An Ethernet Switch provides more ports for network connectivity.
When purchasing a Switch for your dorm room remember these requirements:
- No more than 8 ports on a single Switch
- Do not purchase a device that mentions: Smart, Managed, Router, VLAN, LACP, Wireless, Wi-Fi
Please Note: After plugging a device into a Switch, you must wait 30 minutes before using that device on a different port.

Personal Routers
- Do not use routers, bridging, or your own wireless; the only devices allowed to increase the number of ports in your room are switches. Using a router will disable your network port and it will remain disabled until you contact the OIT Service Desk.
Network Printers
- If you wish to print on campus, click on the following link to learn how to: Paw Prints.
- If you have printer that does not require a network connection, you will still be able to use the usb cable connection to your computer to print.
Wireless Printers
- Printers do not have the ability to connect to our Wireless network. You will need to connect to your printer using a USB cable or other direct connection.
