Leyna Bencomo, Assistive Technology Specialist, facilitated a class at COLTT (Colorado Learning and Teaching with Technology) last week.  Leyna facilitated a board game of her own creation entitled Barrier University, which demonstrates the barriers that universities unknowingly put up that slowdown students with disabilities from making their way to graduation.  Eighteen players participated in three simultaneous games.  Players each represent students with various disabilities.  Students consisted of faculty and staff from several institutions of higher learning.

Brandon Poulliot. LMS Administrator, presented a fast-paced, new and improved adaptation of OMG to API: An LMS Admin Journey. The session engaged participants in a highly interactive exploration of utilizing a learning management system's application programming interface (API) for the betterment of teaching and learning and provides a large toolbox of resources to take home.

OIT will be piloting a virtual lab environment during the Fall semester.  To understand the concept, think about a computer in one of our labs around campus such as in the library, or Columbine.  Now put the entire lab computer inside of a web browser, with processing speeds on par with the actual physical computer.  This is a way for our students, anywhere in the world, to get access to our labs any time during the day or night.  All software that is on our current lab computer image will be on the virtual lab computer as well.  The pilot will be tested with students from CS1120 - Computational Thinking.  Greg Williams, the leader of this project, has taught this class for several years.  If the pilot is successful, we will be able to provide students with a way to access a campus lab computer from practically anywhere.  Additionally, there may be an opportunity for build-remote labs with customized software for specific classes in the future.  More information about the pilot will be released later this year.

In addition to the above positions, OIT will be growing by another two feet! Luis and Verta are expecting the arrival of their little boy mid-February!
